The best unofficial testing tools to find out if you're ready for Sproochtest 🇱🇺

The Sproochtest, also known as an oral comprehension and expression test, is required at the Institut National des Langues in order to obtain Luxembourg citizenship.

I've compiled a list of the top 5 unofficial testing tools you can use to see if you're ready for Sproochtest.

1

Tunnel of love ❤️

This beautiful love story, by Jackie Messerich, is written entirely in Luxembourgish. The best part is that you can read it even if you're a beginner! To fully appreciate the book, however, you will need a level slightly higher than A2. If you don't understand everything, I recommend reading and concentrating on the overall meaning, context, and sentence structure. I'd say you're ready for the Sproochentest if you've read at least 60% of this book.

Dei bescht Lëtzebuerger Spréch

Because learning the language and culture go hand in hand, I recommend this set of 55 didactic cards containing 55 idioms in Luxembourgish. The cards can help you prepare for the second part of the oral exam, when you will be asked to look at a picture and describe what you see. Most of these idioms require at least an A2 level of knowledge of Luxembourgish.

What can and should we do with these cards?

You can start by describing the image on each card, then introduce the story that surrounds the image, and then guess the meaning of each idiom. If you don't know what the image is or can't describe it, turn the card over and the idiom will be explained in simpler terms, though still in Luxembourgish. Try to spend at least 3 minutes discussing each card.

You are definitely ready for the Sproochtest if you can manage without assistance and with additional questions!
